Basic Information & Background
The Ford Escort MK1 is a very recognized name in racing circles and has been successfully raced in rallies since it was first launched! It is still a popular choice as a basis for racing builds and there is a shortage of nice cars on the market. This car is a rare and highly sought after model with a fine history, well built and ready for historic racing! The object is a Swedish-sold Mexico model from 1972 that was retired in 1984 and rebuilt into a racing car during the 90s, it was driven until 2008 when it was stored in the garage and taken out again last year and has been driven sparingly since then.
The car has been rebuilt with fender flares and a full racing chassis according to the regulations for historic racing. There is a racing seat fitted with ready mounts for new approved belts. There is a dry sump system fitted with an oil tank in the trunk and the car can easily be rebuilt for rallying if desired!
The engine is a Ford twincam Lotus with double weber 45 carburettors which gives really good speed with its approx. 200 hp and low weight, combined with the racing chassis and the safety equipment you have a turn-key race car ready for the track. It also comes with 4 rims for e.g. rain tires or studded tires.
Condition
Exterior: The car is in very good condition for the type of car, there are various marks after track driving in the lower part of the body, but overall can be considered very good condition.
Interior: Cleaned and painted interior with full cage, a racing seat (Note: the racing seat in the pictures has been replaced with a similar type racing seat), 4 gauges from i.a. Racetech and ready for the track. See pictures for more info!
Mechanical: The lovely 1600cc Twincam engine runs very well and has no known faults. The brakes are recently renovated and also top in good condition. The last inspection was in 1982 but is still registered. The mileage cannot be guaranteed and is sold as "TMU" (True mileage unknown).
Summary
A really popular and sought-after model that can be driven all year round on all surfaces! Can easily be rebuilt to rally with, and can also be restored to have as a street car if desired. An opportunity to buy a finished and well-built project that is predicted to have a nice increase in value in the coming years.
