Frequently asked questions
Answers to your most common questions.Frequently asked questions about selling
What happens once my auction lot is live?
When your scheduled auction starts, registered bidders are free to place bids or ask questions via our comment field. All comments are reviewed first and moderated by us to ensure good tone and relevance. It is up to each seller to answer any questions that you need to actively follow your auction.
What happens if someone posts a negative comment about my auction lot?
All comments are pre-screened by our moderators in order to keep comments civil and on-topic. If you feel a comment is in violation of our content policy, contact us at support@biddershighway and we’ll look into it.
How do I know if you are interested in my car?
The easiest way to find out is to contact us directly if you have something you think might fit our audience. Send an email to sales@biddershighway.com and we’ll have a look.
Will you consign everything that you are offered?
It’s hard to accurately define what is and isn’t a classic or enthusiast car. Not all cars will fit the Bidders Highway niche, but if you’re curious you should always contact us at sales@biddershighway.com. We want to broaden the market and bring even more appeal to the classic car community.
What is the process for consigning an auction lot?
It's super easy! Click on the sell my car button on our website and a member of our team will contact you.
What information about my listing do I need to provide to Bidders Highway?
The more information you have the better it is. Basic documentation such as ownership information and registration certificate is mandatory, but you can supplement with receipts, service history, previous owners, etc. This is a big plus that makes your car significantly more attractive to potential bidders.
We always conduct an interview over the phone to find out as much as possible about the car before we write the listing, which you then approve before publication.
How much detail do you need about the history, appearance, and mechanical condition of the auction lot?
The more information you can provide the better. We want the listing to be as comprehensive as possible in order for all bidders to place well-informed bids. During the interview and photo session, all eventual imperfections should be documented as well as all special details that might make your car unique. If you don’t have information or knowledge about the condition of your car our team will help you.
Can I set a minimum selling price for the auction lot?
We can set a minimum “reserve price” for your car. If the reserve isn’t met, you’ll get the option to re-list the auction at a later date, accept the highest bid, or withdraw your auction and keep the car. We will help you set a reasonable valuation for your auction, but ultimately, the car will sell at whatever price the market deems fair.
Do I need to make my auction lot available for viewings?
No. All auctions at Bidders Highway are meticulously documented and photographed so that buyers should know exactly what they’re bidding on. Your car can stay perfectly still and undisturbed while the auction is ongoing, wherever it is. However, should a potential buyer still want to view your listing in person it is up to you to choose if you want to make it available.
Do I get to approve the auction listing before it goes live?
Yes, when we’ve finished documenting the object and before it’s published to “Upcoming” you’ll be sent a preview link. You get to see exactly what the auction is going to look like, and we won’t publish without your approval.
Can I bid on my own auction lot?
Bidding on your own auction is expressly prohibited. Any bids made by you or entities controlled by you will result in the immediate closing of your auction and a police report.
Can I withdraw my lot?
Accepting our terms and conditions and listing your car on Bidders Highway gives us the exclusive right to sell your vehicle for the duration of the auction. If you wish to withdraw your auction before the car has been sold, you will be charged a cancellation fee commensurable with a successful auction. You can read more under our Terms and Conditions.
What happens at the end of the auction if my auction lot sells?
When your car has reached the desired reservation price and the auction is over, Bidders Highway will first contact the winning bidder to charge the buyer's fee. Once this has been paid, we will make a digital introduction between the buyer and sellers to complete the payment and agree on the handover of the new car.
Can you remove the auction listing after it’s been sold on Bidders Highway?
Previous auctions will be left on the site but stripped of any identifying information such as the seller, final price, bid history etc.
What happens if there are no bids above my reserve price?
During the auction, you are welcome to consult with us in terms of lowering the reserve. After the auction has closed, the highest bidder will be given the option of placing a final bid at the reserve, winning the auction. They have 24 hours to exercise this option. If they don't, we can either wait a while and re-list the car, or you keep it. Bidders Highway also has the right to waive all or part of our fee to bridge the difference and enable a sale. This is not a guarantee and always takes place in consultation with the buyer and seller.
