Frequently asked questions about buying

What background check is performed on the listings?

We try to get out and look at as many cars as we can, but above all, detailed interviews are conducted with potential sellers about the car's history, origin, and condition. All available information about the object is then in the listing. The seller himself confirms with a binding signature that the information given in the auction listing is correct. Hence, it is the seller who certifies the condition and background of the listing. More about this in our general terms and conditions.

Can I contact the seller during the auction?

You can ask questions in the auction's comment field, where the seller is also given the opportunity to answer. To maintain a good tone and relevance, all comments are moderated by us. If a comment is considered to violate our comment rules, it will not be approved.

How do I know whether the auction lot has a reserve price?

Bidders Highway does not disclose reserve prices, so as not to affect the bidding. You can see in an auction if the reserve price has been reached or not, but we will not show any information beyond that. All bidding on Bidders Highway is done through maximum bids so that you do not have to pay more than you have to. If your maximum bid is lower than the reservation price, you will place your maximum bid; if your maximum bid is higher than the reservation price, the bid will stay exactly at the reservation price.

Can other bidders 'snipe' at the end of an auction to outbid me?

If bids are received just towards the end of the auction, it will be extended by two minutes each time a bid is placed.

Can I withdraw a bid?

All bids are binding and it is you as the bidder who must make sure that you feel safe and comfortable to place a bid based on available information. More about this in our general terms and conditions.

What happens at the end of the auction if I have won the bidding?

You as the winning bidder will first pay your fee to Bidders Highway, once confirmed, Bidders Highway will digitally make an introduction between buyer and seller so that you can get each other's contact information, to decide how payment and delivery should take place.

What happens if the auction lot has some defects that were not mentioned in the auction listing?

Bidders Highway host auctions on our platform, but it is up to the bidder to create as good an idea of the object as possible before placing a binding bid. It is further up to the seller to sign off that the information given in the listing is correct and that nothing of material nature has been omitted.

If the object during inspection after completed purchase differs significantly from the description, the product is to be regarded as defective under sections 17 & 18 of the Purchase Act.

Does the buyer's premium include transport or storage?

No, but Bidders Highway is happy to put you in contact with trusted freight companies for transportation.

What are the bid increments?

The minimum raise of a bid is 1000 SEK.

I live abroad and want to export the car.

For bidders outside Sweden, we recommend that you check the import rules that apply to your particular country. There you will also clearly see what documentation is needed from the seller of the car on Bidders Highway for the export to be possible.

How much does it cost to use Bidders Highway?

The price you see when an auction has ended is the price the buyer pays the seller. In addition to this, the buyer pays a fee of 7.5% including VAT of the winning bid to Bidders Highway after the auction closes. This fee is limited to a maximum of SEK 75,000 and a minimum of SEK 5000.

In addition to this there are no mark-ups or hidden fees.

Can I follow up with the seller after the auction ends if it failed to meet reserve and I am still interested?

If an auction ends without having reached its reserve, the three highest bidders will be given the option to place a final bid within 24 hours and the Seller has the option to sell the vehicle through Bidders Highway to whomever places the highest bid. First come, first serve—the Seller may accept any of the bids at any time. If they choose to not sell their vehicle, the Seller may choose what happens: they can wait a while and re-list for a later auction, or they can keep their vehicle.

Can I inspect the auction lot in person during the auction?

You can ask in the comment section if it is possible to come and look at the listing in person, but it is entirely up to the seller to grant a viewing. Buyers and sellers can not, however, initiate a separate negotiation on the spot as the item is handled exclusively by Bidders Highway during the ongoing auction.

What does BUY NOW mean?

Some of our lots are listed as BUY NOW. This means that the seller has chosen to put their car up for sale at a fixed price that guarantees a sale. These lots have no fixed time limit. Being the first to BUY NOW means you can buy the lot at its listed price.

What is the difference between pre-bid and max-bid?

Before an auction goes live, there is always the opportunity to place a so-called pre-bid of all lots. This is a binding bid and will be displayed in its total amount when the auction starts.

Max-bids are the bids you place when the auction has gone live and mean that you enter the maximum price you want to pay for the object and let your bid be raised automatically according to the standard bid increments if another bidder chooses to place a higher bid. This proceeds until your max-bid is reached.

Exchange rates and choice of currency

The currency in which fees are paid is decided by where an item has been accepted for selling. Items that have been consigned in Sweden are valued, sold and paid for in Swedish Crowns (SEK). All additional fees for such items are in Swedish Crowns (SEK). The indicated exchange rate (€) at the time of auction is current estimate and may vary by time of sale.
