Basic Information & Background

The DeLorean DMC-12 is not only a car, but also an important part of automotive history. Only about 9,000 cars managed to be manufactured between 1981 and 1983 and of these there are only about 6,500 left. The myths and stories are many, both about the car, the company DeLorean Motor Company and its founder John Zachary DeLorean. But perhaps the car was made most famous in the film trilogy Back to the Future.

So what makes the DeLorean such a unique car? Basically - celebrity, film and bankruptcies notwithstanding, it's all about the timeless design. The car was designed by the renowned Italian Giorgetto Giugiaro and the lines were, for its time, stripped down and clean and the proportions were perfect. In addition to this, the iconic gullwings made the car feel modern and futuristic even today, 40 years later.

This particular example is an 81 with an exciting Swedish history where the car was initially used as an everyday car. It has since undergone an ongoing, rolling renovation where everything from the frame, wheel suspensions and engine has been overhauled and maintained. Much of this is documented in folders with receipts and invoices. This is an early car with serial number 2131, manufactured in July 1981 and shipped to Irvine, California. This means it has correct collector specification, with a 5-speed manual gearbox, fuel cap and pressed lines in the hood, dark gray wheels and the black interior. In addition to this, it has a custom-built stainless exhaust system from Ferrita at an estimated cost of around SEK 50,000.

Condition

Exterior: The car is in fine original/used condition. It is straight and nice in all body panels and has no bumps. The rims have minor paint chips and the tires are in good condition. The rear bumper has some minor paint chips and dings. However, this is easily remedied. All the lights work and the doors have unusually good mechanics and a "safe" feel. However, it should be emphasized that the DeLorean had a number of quality problems right from the factory, so fit and reliability cannot be compared to a modern car. This is part of the charm.

Interior: The interior is in 100% original appearance with newly upholstered seats in black leather, new original headliner, new original interior carpets, new original trunk carpet and new original rear view mirror. In addition to this, the rest of the interior is in good, usable condition. The top of the instrument panel has some cracks and the original radio has a small defect in the plastic. Even when it came to technology, DeLorean had some quality issues right from the start. This means that electric lifts and central locks have "deficient reliability". That is, sometimes they work. Sometimes not. Just like it was in 1981.

Mechanical: The engine, a PRV V6 of 2.8 liters, is regularly serviced and inspected. It always starts and runs smooth and fine. To this there is a custom built stainless Ferrite system connected for a nice sound and good looks.

Summary

A nice "honest" original car with a very nice overall impression. Perfect for the car collector or someone who has dreamed of a DeLorean since childhood. These cars increase in value and interest every year, so there is also a chance for a nice "pension insurance". The car is sold newly inspected and ready to drive.
