Basic information and History

After several years of air-cooled 911s, due to limitations, exhaust requirements and other factors, a more up-to-date and modern version of the 911 model needed to be developed and put into production. The result; Porsche 996, sharing few things with its air-cooled predecessors and prepared to take the new millennium by storm! The model was designed by designer Pinky Lai and received a completely new look compared to the common design language of previous models. The biggest technological boost was, of course, the new water-cooled engine.

This dark blue example from 1999 comes with a 3.4-liter boxer six of approx. 300hp/350nm connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The car was sold new in Germany and arrived in Sweden already in 2000 and has currently only driven approx. 93,000km.

Equipment and Options

This example looks like it was ordered with longer trips in mind. A sampling of equipment taken from the vehicle's nameplate shows, for example, plenty of extra interior options;

  • 8-way electric chairs with memory
  • Extended leather on dash, speakers, ventilation, regulation and more
  • Sunroof
  • Navigation
  • Phone
  • Harman analog sound system
  • Cruise control
  • Differential lock

Condition

The exterior condition of the car is described by the seller as good, both in terms of paintwork and rust. No known renovations have been carried out on the vehicle. We can only agree and let the pictures speak for themselves. However, there are, among other things, stone chips and small scratches, but nothing unexpected considering the age of the vehicle. The rims have minor marks in them and traces of normal use. New tires are mounted all around the car. Glass parts and lamps also appear to be in good condition, beyond normal wear and tear over time.

The interior is a dark blue leather in normal condition considering its age. Fabric parts on the floor and door sides look nice. Buttons, controls and the telephone typical of the period also appear to be in normal condition. There are of course small marks and minor deviations, but overall, the vehicle looks good on the inside.

Mechanically, there is no abnormality to report, according to the seller. Engine and gearbox are described as excellent and gone through in 2019 with clutch and gaskets. Brake pads were changed in 2017 and have since driven about 8000km. The car was last inspected/MOT’d  in September 2023.

Feel free to scroll thru all the pictures of the vehicle to make yourself an idea of the general condition. Any questions can be typed directly in the comment section!

Service history

The most recent service was performed in connection with a visit to Porsche Danderyd, in 2019. Previous service records are included and as seen have all been done at Porsche authorized workshops. The car has been sparsely used in recent summers. A service is booked and will be carried out before the car is delivered to their new owner. The service is booked in april.

Summary

A nice specimen of Porsches first watercooled 911 with low milage!
