Basic information and history
The Volkswagen Golf was launched in 1974 and first sold in 1975. It was a replacement for the Beetle, which was starting to go out of date. The Golf model became so popular that today it is one of the world's best-selling cars and has had its own class named after it, the "golf class". The model is currently in its eighth generation since 2020.
This Swedish-sold 1985 Golf CL of the second generation has only had 3 owners over the years. The car was bought new by an elderly man and the car was subsequently inherited and used sparingly as an extra car out on the farm. The car has currently driven approx. 76000 km and meter reading can be guaranteed. The car comes with a 1.6-liter petrol engine of approx. 75hp/117nm connected to a 5-speed gearbox.
Condition
The bodywork has managed relatively well over the years and without major damage. Normal wear and tear occurs, however, including paint damage and minor dents on the hood as well as minor paint chips and marks in various places under the windshield. On one door there are cracks in the paint and some bubbles near the molding. Under the left rear light there are traces of previous repairs. Repairs have previously been carried out around the door handle. Kick boxes look rust-free and good as far as minor dents, scraped paint and previous repairs. According to information, previously mentioned paint repairs were carried out around 1990. Glass details are in good condition. Rims are blasted and powder coated and have received four new tires. Pattern depth is approx. 8 mm.
The interior of the car is in good used condition. Seat fabric has survived worse wear and looks completely fine. Interior roof is in nice and clean condition and sits where it should. Seat fabric in back seat has traces of dirt but free of damage. Door sides as well, but there is the usual rubbing from the inside and nicks on the storage compartment and the fabric on the right door looks a little loose. Inner fabric on the body has come off in the back seat. Buttons and controls are in good condition and without direct wear.
The engine and gearbox are described as being in very good condition and no noise or leakage has been noted. Brakes are found to be in good condition and new brake cylinders are installed in the rear.
Feel free to look through our photos to form your own opinion of the condition. If you have any questions, these can most easily be asked in the comment section.
Service history
The car was serviced last October this year by the current owner. The timing belt has been changed for approx. 100 miles ago. Previous inspection records are available. The last approved inspection/MOT was carried out on 10/13/2023.
Summary
A Volkswagen Golf CL in good used condition which with simple means and interventions can become really nice. A good and cheap collector's car that keeps its value. Can also, if desired, be a perfect rolling project or be built into something exciting!
