Basic Information & Background
Already in the early 60s, Porsche began planning for the 911 model that would replace the 356, but they were afraid that the significantly more expensive and niche model would hamper sales, and therefore they developed this entry-level model. The engine is a 1.6L 4-cyl boxer engine that gave 90hp paired with the nice 5-speed manual box.

This incredibly fine specimen was manufactured in the Porsche factory (Reutter) / Stuttgart-zuffenhausen already in 1965 and was delivered in September of the same year to the first owner in Germany. The low chassis number indicates that it is No. 866 built in the Porsche factory of all 912s.

The car is a matching number car with COA (Certificate of authenticity) from Porsche and is a Eurospec model which means, among other things, Km/h speedometer and the large heating chambers.

The early 912 models have a couple of unusual details compared to those that came later, i.a. Like the spigot grilles in chrome-nickel-plated brass with 4 screws and Mann & Hummel air filter cans (elephant trunks) for the 2 Solex 40 Pll-4 carburetors.

After the car lived in Germany, it was then exported to the USA / California where it remained until 2011 when it was imported to Sweden. In 2012, the car was repainted in the original color Polorot/6602 and all rubber strips were replaced.

In 2013 the current owner bought the car and in 2014 he had a saddle maker sew up a new complete interior in black vinyl. Between 2015-2018, the engine and gearbox were renovated, the brakes were rebuilt to 2-circuit at the same time, the yoke was renovated as well as new discs, pads, master brake cylinder and hoses/pipes. All done by Porsche specialist on Perry's engine.

Everything under the car, e.g. axles, struts and brake shields have been blasted and powder coated. All bushings and wear parts were replaced and new Bilstein shock absorbers were fitted and wheel alignment was also done at that time. The pedal rack, gas and gear linkage have been refurbished with new bushings/wear parts. New fuel tank with new fixture and fuel hoses.

The car stands on original steel rims KPZ 4.5x15" stamped -65 with hub caps and has Vredestein Sprint Classic tires 165x15x86 fitted which are still in top condition. The spare wheel is KPZ stamped -64 and with the same tyres.

Condition
Exterior: The car is in absolutely fantastic condition thanks to the thorough renovation. It is simply as close to new condition as you can get and with very few remarks other than a few blemishes on the paint and some pitting on the chrome work around the car. Sparingly used and always kept in a warm garage, which means the car is in a very nice condition. The original rims are also in very good condition and so are the tires.

Interior. In 2014 the car received a brand new interior stitched by a recognized saddle maker and shows no signs of use. Many original parts have of course been retained to maintain the car's original status. There are no remarks to mention.

Mechanical: Vibrant and easy-starting 1.6L engine. Clutch/brakes etc feel very good and are renovated/replaced/reviewed. The gearbox works flawlessly and the car runs as if it left the factory yesterday.

Service history
The most recent service was done in October 2021 with, among other things, Oil, filter and spark plug change and the car has only been driven about 50 miles after that. The car is inspection exempt and well documented! Original instruction book -65 is included as well as 3 keys + receipts

Summary
A currently very popular model that will be a safe investment for the future. Well-documented history, very nicely renovated and fits just as well in a museum as in your own garage, or on the road!
