2000 Mercedes G500 Classic Special Edition

Basic Information & Background
We are proud to present this fantastic item, a very rare Mercedes G 500 Classic Special Edition from 2000. The model was produced to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first civilian Geländewagen released in 1979 and has some unique details to distinguish it from the regular G 500 Facelift which was released at the same time. The car received a unique color combination with two-tone luxurious leather interior and was painted in stylish Almandine Black that shifts purple in the sun. The G 500 has had a big boost in recent years and has become very attractive on the market!
This example was purchased by the current owner in 2006 from the previous owner who had imported the car from Germany. It was used in the Stockholm area for years afterwards before the current owner started working at a university in France where it was also registered and used in daily use and a couple of lovely tours in the Alps. Worth noting is that the car has never been used "off-road". After the owner finished his project in France, he imported it back to Sweden where it has lived ever since and has been used as a second car in recent years.
As can be seen, the car has never been renovated and has been mostly serviced by authorised MERCEDES workshops throughout its lifetime. Most items are documented, even if earlier documentation is sparse. In recent years, the car has been serviced by Ola & Fredriks Bilservice in Eskilstuna, who are very good with this model.
The car has studded Mud-Terrain winter tires on original rims that come with the purchase. There is also a model-adapted roof rack model "HANNIBAL" which is included as well as the Mercedes Benz "picnic basket". An extra main power switch was installed as the car was sometimes parked in a garage for several weeks when the owner was on assignment in France and Marrekech. Eberspächer gasoline heater with wireless connection is available but has not been used for ten years and is not tested by us. Heavy duty towbar is originally fitted but never used.

Condition
Exterior: As the pictures show, it is in need of a new full paint job to be in mint condition again. Straight and nice in the body with very little rust and some other blemishes which is a common problem on these models. The car has its original paint (Almadin schwartz) and received various. touch-ups over the years to keep free from rust and other interventions, and there are therefore paint joints and other signs that a full paint job is required. However, the car has had a professional undercarriage rust treatment and in besides the paint is in good condition, please see our detailed photos for more info!
Interior. The original 2-tone leather interior is in very good condition for its age and mileage. There are traces of use and age/patina but can be considered to be in honest and good condition with no damage/tears in the leather, complete and fine interior ceiling and is of course smoke free. The wooden details such as steering wheel, gear lever, instrument panel etc. are in very good condition. The original BLAUPUNKT radio works but sometimes loses contact with the CD changer in the back of the car. Worth noting is the sunroof would need an overhaul in terms of functionality and is currently not working.
Mechanically: Mechanically, the car is in top condition and the drivetrain is flawless. The engine runs fine and is vibration-free and the gearbox is silky smooth thanks to regular service and no off-road driving and towing. The four-wheel drive and low gear/differentials work perfectly when they are test driven once a month as preventive maintenance. There are no known mechanical faults and oil consumption.
Service history
During the car's lifetime, service has been carried out meticulously according to the manual. Original service book and all instructions are included with the car as well as 2 keys. The last inspection was 2022/06 with no comments.

An unusual and attractive special model that will stand up very well in the future. Either you can give the car the love it deserves with a full paint job, or just turn the key and drive! Whatever you decide to do, it's an affordable and good car that deserves to be saved for the future.
