1950 Dodge Wayfarer Convertible Custom

Basic Information & Background

The Dodge Wayfarer is a rare model that was only produced between 1949 - 1952, and this 1950 model was the first minor facelift to arrive and is one of only 2903 Roadsters built. However, this specimen has received an extensive and absolutely fantastic rebuild into something out of the ordinary! The car was imported from Chicago in 2005 in a poor condition, bought by the current owner in 2007 who began a lengthy renovation/remodeling that was more or less completed before the Custom motor show in 2019. Tested and reg-inspected in 2021 and all changes are registered and approved by Swedish Bilprovning.

The project has been carried out by Daniel Jinnestrand, who runs Djs Garage Sweden in Laxå and who is also the current owner. This means a unique opportunity for total renovation/remodelling history where knowledge and documentation is available throughout the entire renovation period. The entire floor plate including thresholds is completely newly built and in connection with this the bodywork has also been lowered above the frame approx. 2". Otherwise a whole range of special solutions and customizations such as cleaned handles/mouldings, welded rear fenders with redesigned fender edges and fender skirts, redesigned fender edges on the front fenders , cleaned and redesigned tailgate and sunken lakepipes.

On the inside, the dashboard has been redesigned and the engine compartment has been cleaned for a stylish impression. The car is equipped with air suspension in the rear with the possibility of installing it in the front as well. Stereo system with 2 active 10" basses under the seats and 2 6.5" and 2 5.25" speakers. 12 volt socket and fire extinguisher are mounted in the luggage.

Condition

Exterior: The car is in fantastically good condition and has a very nice paintwork with no complaints. All body parts have been sheet metal clean. Painted in parts in 2019 in General Motors "Sungold" by Järruds Classics in Säter, recently polished and treated with ceramic paint protection. The car has been used very sparingly since completion and the condition is accordingly.

Interior. The car has been given an incredibly nice interior which consists of seats/door sides/edge trims covered in genuine burgundy leather that breaks off against the black floor mat. The convertible stand is covered in burgundy canvas fabric. In the back of the drawer, burgundy vinyl is mixed with black carpet. All leather/vinyl work done by M&S car upholstery.

Mechanically: Engine and box work flawlessly and the car runs fantastically well! All wearing parts, e.g. Axle parts, brakes, wheel bearings and steering parts are new in connection with the renovation. Frame, axles etc. are blasted and powder coated or painted black. The drivetrain consists of a thorough Chevrolet 305 and newly renovated TH350 gearbox from 1979 and there are no known mechanical faults.

Service history

Service book/info is not available for the car but has been used sparingly and well maintained by the owner over the years. Last inspection was 2021/06 and that was also the last inspection and the car is now inspection exempt.

A custom build like no other, top quality in all work and a real showstopper! An opportunity to buy a finished project for a fraction of the cost of building something similar.
