Basic information and history
Domestically sold BMW 2000 CS from 1968 is being sold as the current owner does not have the opportunity to complete the project. The car has had 9 owners over the years and is a good subject for an original restoration. The project comes with half a pallet with both, old, new and extra parts. The car is drivable in its current condition and has been inspected with an approved result on 19/04/2024.
- Rolling and drivable project, 1968 BMW 2000 CS
- Newly renovated straight four with twin Solex carburetors
Equipped with 2-liter straight four with dual carburetors. The car is registered as a 2000 C but is a CS.
Condition
The current owner describes the car as being in usable condition and a sensible subject for an original restoration. None of the door locks work, nor does the trunk lid lock. The lock is from a four-door model and does not quite match the lock part found on the coupe. The body is slightly dented everywhere. Owner informs that there is rust in the following places: on the plate under the front bumper, both fender edges at the rear, the area near the rear left fender, lower edge of one door, between the left door and rear wheel, both inner fenders at the front and that it is badly repaired with plate underneath the front bumper, on the right side. A previous owner has painted the car in one of BMW's silver colours. The original color is Bristol grey. All glass is complete but with age wear. Chrome, lights and moldings are in good condition considering age and other condition. Left inner entry strip is missing. In 2023, five new tires were bought and these mounted on the original rims, which were repainted at the same time.
The owner describes the interior as being in usable condition. Wood needs revarnishing. Inner ceiling needs to be replaced or re-glued. The upper part of the instrument panel is not mounted correctly. The rim for the horn is broken but is included. Chrome moldings for the lower part of the door sides are available but are not fitted. Chrome strip on the right side by the door lock is present but is not mounted. Window lifts are heavy but work. However, the rear left elevator is defective. The clutch is rebuilt from mechanical to hydraulic but sometimes gets stuck due to the return spring. There is a cracked seam on the edge of the front seat. The front door sides are screwed with self-drilling screws. Controls are in OK condition but the heating valve does not close 100%.
Engine is newly renovated during winter 2023/2024 and has matching numbers. There are receipts from work done for close to SEK 90,000. Otherwise, some other things have been changed, e.g. new fuel pipes, new electric pump, new bushings, new silentblock in the rear trailer. All bushings in the front carriage, new joints in the front carriage, new rear Sachs shocks and springs, new front springs, new aluminum radiator, rebuilt carburetors rebuilt with original kits. The gearbox and driveline are described as being in good condition, but new engine pads and gearbox pad are needed as it shakes a bit. Brake system has been refurbished with refurbished brake calipers, new front pads and mounting kits, new wheel cylinders and backs, mounting kits and handbrake cable. Also new brake pipes and hoses.
Underneath, the car is free from rust and has been tectyl-treated. The rear travel wheel cover has been replaced and the work is OK. Sheets in the floors have been replaced and edges rebated and the work is OK done. The sheet metal in the front fenders has been replaced, but it is unclear if it is possible to get a good surface on the pieces. The right side of the tailgate is rusty but can be saved. The inspection did not have any comments on the rust that was previously described.
The seller informs that the following OEM parts are missing: Original radiator, original wiper motor, half of the exhaust system, sealing strip for the trunk lid, hub caps and an outer part for the air can. The current part for the air can is a copy produced by a mechanical workshop.
Summary
A good rolling project of BMW's neue klasse, 2000 CS. Perfect for those who want to drive while being able to tinker on the condition but not having to worry about inspection, the condition of the engine or the brakes suddenly giving up!
