1954 Ariel HS 500
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Due to an apparent mis-bid this auction has been extended 24 hours
Basic information and history
Bidders Highway has been honoured to help sell a large collection of motorcycles, motocross and mopeds as the owner is unfortunately no longer able to drive these. Due to condition of the owner, no questions can be asked about the objects. The information we managed to arrange is therefore slightly less than on our other objects. The objects have not been started by us.
The item in this auction can only be picked up on a specific date, Saturday 6/7 at 12.00. Please be understanding about this.
The Ariel motorcycle brand dates back as far as 1898 and this 1954 Ariel HS 500 is the last of the 'Big British Single' era, as the engines were called. This cross bike was built for trail and cross riding in the 50s. The bike has been raced by the current owner under driver number 57, which appears on several of the competition bikes in the collection. The motorcycle is today completely original and the owner has been looking for parts for many years to restore it to an original condition.
Condition
The motorcycle has been restored after years of racing to a very nice original condition, especially considering its age. The paintwork is in good condition with a little patina. The chrome as well. The saddle has a small mark on it but is otherwise fine. The motorcycle needs an inspection and service before starting up.
Please look through all photos carefully to form an idea of the condition. Unfortunately, questions cannot be asked about the objects as the owner is not able to answer.
Summary
One of the last single-cylinder four-stroke competitors from England. A fantastic item from a bygone era! The motorcycle has been in several successful cross races here in Sweden with the current owner as driver, and as always with number 57.
The description of this auction item is, to the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Before the description is approved by the seller, Bidders Highway gathers a range of details about the listing from the seller and performs a level of background checks. However, it is up to the bidder to ensure that the description is correct and to do whatever research they deem necessary before placing a bid which is then binding. Bidders Highway does not carry out a full inspection of the object and the transaction is between the buyer and the seller. We encourage all potential bidders to ask questions and use the comments section for additional information. See our general terms and conditions for full details.
