1963 Mercury Comet
Originally from the USA, this tough and rather unusual model has lived its life in Sweden with the only user here since 2018. The car was imported by recognized Järudds and is an at least as nice but more affordable alternative than the cousin Ford Mustang.
The car came from the factory with a 2.8L 6 cylinder engine but over the years one owner made the wise decision to replace the engine with a 221cc Ford V8 engine coupled with a 2 speed automatic transmission and 2.73 rear axle ratio which produces low engine speed. A well-deserved and appreciated upgrade!

Condition
Exterior: The seller says that the car is in good working condition. The car has been repainted in the original color at some point in the USA. Noted are a couple of minor spots with surface rust at screen edges, some stone chips and other various marks on the paint. Glass parts are in good condition, as are moldings, emblems and chrome which have a little patina. Elcab works perfectly and the fabric has recently been changed and is in top condition. All remarks are documented in the album, see our detailed pictures there and feel free to ask questions in the comment field!
Interior: The seller says that the interior is also in a generally usable condition, but there is new upholstery on the front seats in good condition and a new floor mat. The dash and panel are in good condition with some general patina and some minor cracking. Mechanically and electrically, the car works as it should and there are no other updates or renovations inside the car. For more info, please see our detailed photos in the album and feel free to ask questions in the comment field!
Mechanics: The seller says that the drivetrain is in very good condition. The small V8 engine of 221 cubic inches is thorough and provides enough power and the renovated gearbox shifts smoothly. It was last serviced in 2022 by the seller and there is no previous service history beyond the old service cards on the dashboard. New wheels and brake cylinders in 2018. The tread depth of the tires is approx. 4 mm and there are no remarks on lighting, however, a small oil leak is noted. The car was last inspected in 2019-06 without any complaints and is now both inspection and tax exempt. Read odometer reading is approx 6250 miles but cannot be guaranteed. Feel free to see all the photos in the album for more info and ask questions in the comment field!
Summary
A very affordable alternative to other convertible models from the same decade that also stands out from the crowd. Just turn the key and drive as it is, or a perfect winter project to fix with the cosmetic!
