Basic Information and History

This 1969 Lotus Seven S3, now in left-hand drive configuration, is an outstanding example of British sports car history. With only four owners since the car was imported from England in 1981 and a mileage of only 17,042 km, this is a car for the true enthusiast.

SB 2406 was manufactured in early 1969 by Lotus Cars Limited with a right-hand drive body and a Ford 1600 GT engine. On March 27, 1981, the car was sold in parts by Caterham Car Sales to a buyer in Bålsta, Sweden. At the same time, the customer purchased a new left-hand drive body kit, model S3, from Caterham Car Sales Ltd. The parts were imported to Sweden on April 3, 1981, and were then assembled. On August 11, 1982, the car was registered and inspected, then with a mileage of only 51 km. The car was painted black/aluminum and equipped with a 1558 cc Ford Lotus Twin Cam Big Valve engine, a Ford gearbox, and a Ford rear axle. The car was driven sparingly until 1988, when it was inspected on June 2. The then-owner planned to tune the car for track days, which involved disassembling the cylinder head and ordering sharper camshafts from Elwa Motors. However, the work was never completed, and the car remained in the garage until the next change of ownership. On December 1, 2021, the car was sold to a buyer in Knivsta. The new owner renovated the cylinder head with the new camshafts but did not reinstall it onto the engine. The car was later sold on September 27, 2022, to a buyer in Falköping, who completed the renovation. He reassembled the engine and also conducted an extensive renovation of the brakes, including new calipers, hoses, and lines. The fuel tank was also replaced with a new one.

Condition

The body condition is described as very good, with no dents or deep scratches. There is no rust on the body, and the paint is in good condition. The front fenders were repainted in 2024 due to scratches. The windshield, wind deflector, side windows, and convertible top are all in good condition, and the wheels are undamaged. The tires are in very good condition, and the convertible top is well-preserved. The engine is in good condition, as are the drivetrain and gearbox.

Service History

The car passed inspection without any remarks on April 26, 2023, and is now exempt from future inspections. At the time of inspection, the car had a mileage of 16,769 km. The most recent service was performed in 2023.

Summary

With its impressive history, low mileage, and excellent condition, this Lotus Seven S3 is a highly attractive collector's item and an investment for the future. The car is equipped with a top-condition convertible top and tonneau, making it ready for both exhibition and driving pleasure on the road or track.
