1951 Jaguar XK120
The Jaguar XK120 was the first sports car from Jaguar since 1939 and was highly anticipated, which was evident in the response. The car was a success and even today fine examples are highly sought after on the market and have broken record after record at the auction houses. The car was designed by Sir Williams Lyons and was considered one of the most beautiful cars ever when it arrived. In addition to the fantastic design, the car took several speed records and was competed with great success in racing.
This example is undoubtedly one of the most well documented we have seen with several binders of history. The car was bought in 1996 by the CEO of Volvo's heavy side in Finland. With the help of subcontractors, he had completely renovated the car during the years 1987 - 1996. As mentioned, there is some history from the renovation, i.a. various photos, also an audio cassette from the start of the fully renovated engine.
The car has also been raced for some time before the renovation but there are no signs of that left on the car today and everything has been renovated to a fantastically fine original condition and is of course 100% matching numbers.
The current owner has driven the car continuously during his ownership and enjoyed 5000 fantastic miles, including during a longer road trip to the XK engine's anniversary at Donington in England in 1998.
Condition
Exterior: Despite the fact that the car has been used extensively after the renovation, it has been very well taken care of, which you can see from the condition. The chrome is still in top condition, as is the paint, although there are a couple of small marks/stone chips from use. At the time of purchase, the car was in an excellent, refurbished condition, however with some details incorrect which were subsequently corrected by the current owner. Among other things it turned out that the paintwork needs to be redone due to incorrect sub-work, but the car received a complete repaint in 2010 by Bilskadecenter in Lindesberg with a very nice result. Sunroof, cockpit canopy and side windows are of course available for the car.
Interior: The stunning lipstick red interior is also in very nice condition with a really lovely patina. The seats are in very good condition with very little wear, as is the steering wheel and dashboard. There were no comments on anything that did not work at the time of the photo shoot.
Mechanical: Inspected in June 2017 without remarks and is now both tax and inspection exempt. Engine and box are, as previously mentioned, fully renovated, inspected and very well looked after with many new parts over the years. Stable idle, lovely register and perfect oil pressure. It comes with some spare parts, i.a. Various gaskets, instruments, original distributor, valve shims and rebuild kit for fuel pump (electronic) included. Original diagonal tires are also included. A couple of necessary and desired upgrades that have been made over the years are as follows:
- Heating system with fan fitted which was standard from 1952
- Exhaust system in stainless steel (so-called Twin system)
- Polybush bushings in front carriage.
- New spring leaves in rear carriage.
- 1-2-3 Ignition ignition system.
- Radial tires Michelin X.
- Electric fan in front of radiator.
- Batteries (2 pcs) 12V approx. 88 Ah. Parallel connected (serial connected 6V original).,
- Battery cover
The mileage is only 1400 miles but cannot be guaranteed and is sold as "TMU" (True mileage unknown). All inspection reports and invoices since purchase are preserved.
Summary
A stunningly beautiful and well-renovated example of a classic icon that both runs and looks as it should! These models have had a very stable price picture and fine specimens like this one always have, and will always be sought after on the market.
