1956 Ford Thunderbird

Fredrik1979
Gotland

Basic information and history

Domestically sold Ford Thunderbird from 1956 which, according to information, has had no more than 3-4 owners over the years, one of the previous owners of which is said to have been lawyer and car enthusiast Henning Sjöström. However, the information about this comes from a previous owner and whether it is correct has not been checked. Meter reading is 32523km, but may have rolled around. The current owner's son says that the father, who had the model as a childhood dream, happily bought the car in 2007. It was used together with his wife on various vintage car rallies on the mainland and day trips on the island. The highlight of the year was, as many of us recognise, the edge of spring when the car was finally picked up again. The car is in good used condition and is now looking for a new owner who can continue to look after and enjoy the car.

Condition

The general condition of the bodywork is described as good. The car was repainted from turquoise to black by the previous owner. The paintwork is in decent condition with minor scratches and occasional nicks. No visible rust. The paintwork carried out is described as good, although not super professional. Glass panes in good condition with a few stone chips. The right door window has three scratches in the pane. The small window on the right door has some discoloration. Chrome, moldings and lamp glass are described as being in relatively good condition. In some places, the chrome has loosened a bit and got a few scratches and stains. Emblems are complete and fine, lamp lenses as well. The roof of the hardtop is in very good condition and sits where it should. The soft top is new since a few years ago. Rims in good condition with tires with approx. 8-9mm pattern depth left. A polish could bring out the luster in the black paint and improve the finish.

The interior is described as good condition, apart from two small holes in the leather on the driver's side, one in the door and one in the seat. Door panels in OK condition with light surface wear. Instrument panel in good condition, however with a minimal crack in the plastic of the speedometer. Steering wheel, button and controls in fine condition with some paint rubbing on the small knobs for the temperature. The crank for the left door window is loose. It is possible to crank up and down, but the crank should be attached.

Engine is described as being in good condition. Gearbox, drivetrain and brakes as well. Mechanically, everything works as it should.

Service history

Unfortunately, the son of the owner does not know when the car was last serviced. However, there are some receipts and documentation from before. The earliest document is inspection paper from 1976. The last inspection was carried out in 2017 and the car is now inspection exempt. There must be inspection papers back to 2006.

Summary

A childhood dream that came true for a father. This domestically sold Thunderbird is now looking for a new home to be looked after and picked out and enjoyed when the weather permits.
