Basic information and History
The 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback is an iconic American muscle car that was part of the first generation Ford Mustang. It was manufactured by Ford Motor Company from August 1964 to 1973. The 1966 model year brought some notable changes and refinements to the Mustang.
On the exterior, the Mustang Fastback had a distinctive sloping roofline that gave it a sleek and sporty look. The 66 model year introduced a new grille design with horizontal bars and a running horse emblem in the center.
The interior of the '65 Mustang Fastback featured a driver-oriented environment with a sporty design. It offered sports seats, a center console and a variety of available options such as air conditioning, power steering and power brakes.
This example in delicious "Poppy red" red lacquer was sold new in the USA and imported to Sweden in 2021 and has had one user here. It is GT-cloned with all the right attributes and the stylish pony interior, and sometime before it came to Sweden it received a renovation including full paint. The engine is an A-code 289 of 225hp with a couple of upgrades and the gearbox has been replaced with a modern T5 manual gearbox.
Condition
Exterior: The car is a GT-Clone with associated accessories and correct tailpipes on the exhaust system. Equipped with period front fog lights, original rims and emblems as a 1966 GT should look.
The seller says that the car is in a good condition on the outside except for a couple of minor marks and scratches in the paintwork in a couple of places that are documented in the album. There are a couple of marks/bumps on the hood from previously sluggish hood hinges that have now been replaced. Glass parts, chrome and emblem are in good condition, as are the rims where the tires have approx. 9mm tread left.
The car has undergone a renovation at some point over the years with new paint in the original color Poppy Red. For more info on exact condition, see our detailed photos in the album and feel free to ask questions in the comments!
Interior: The really nice Pony interior appears to be in fine condition and without major complaints beyond normal wear and tear. The black interior contrasts really well with the paint and the combination is just the icing on the cake. The instrument panel is free of cracks or major signs of sun fading. The controls are apparently original controls in fine condition with a little patina. All gauges and other functions in the interior are in a good and working condition. Meter setting cannot be guaranteed. For more info on exact condition, see our detailed photos in the album and feel free to ask questions in the comments!
Mechanics: The seller informs that the engine (289ci A-Code 225hp) is a gem and works very well mechanically. Upgraded with Edelbrock 4-port carburetor, intake and switchless ignition system.
The car has been upgraded with a Ford T5 gearbox where a slight whining sound on gears 1-3 is noted. The car has been serviced at Åke's Bil och Motor in Täby, who assessed that the sound did not interfere with the function of the gearbox but should be reviewed in the future. Last service was performed May 2022, the car also has new brake calipers/pads and brake shoes. It is also noted that the heating fan is disconnected due to noise and the tank gauge has a defective function. It has new shock absorbers and shares the exhaust system. Various bushings in the front carriage have been replaced, as well as a new generator and new tyres. The car was last inspected on 2021-08-03 and is now inspection-exempt and tax-exempt. For more info on exact condition, see our detailed photos in the album and feel free to ask questions in the comments!
