1977 Datsun 280Z Griffith Z Roadster

Bjo65
Stockholm

Basic information and history

Very rare Datsun 280Z rebuilt by coach company Griffith Custom Coach in Fort Lauderdale, USA. These cars were built to order for the US market only. The cars that were rebuilt into the cabriolet underwent careful strengthening in order not to meet the same fate as many poorly home-carved cabs do after a short time in use. How many Z Griffith Roadsters were actually built is hard to say, but after a little research, it's around 20. How many remain today is difficult to say. As of today, it is a very rare car and they are rarely for sale. The latest copy in Europe was car number 12 with a price tag of approx. 79,000 euros.

This example was imported to Denmark in 1990 and the current owner brought it to Sweden in 2003. In 2021 the car was registered and inspected.

  1. Very rare convertible, Nissan 280Z Griffith Z Roadster from 1977
  2. Imported in 2003 to Sweden
  3. Only one owner on Swedish land

Equipped with a 2.8-liter straight six of approx. 170hp/220nm coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. There are no performance figures on these unusual cabs, but with the roof down, the sound of the straight six is a very pleasant traveling companion!

Condition

The current owner describes the condition of the body as generally good. There is rust on, among other things, the left rear fender and at the hinges to the hood. The paint on the car is the original paint and with its 40 years of life, the condition is accordingly. There are paint chips, wear and marks all around. Glass panes are described as being in good condition, as are lantern glass. The type-correct rims of the Enkei brand are without damage, but with age wear and tire patterns are described as good.

Please look carefully through the pictures to get an idea of the condition of the car. Questions can be asked in the question field and answered by the owner.

The interior is generally in good condition. The chairs have been reupholstered. Steering wheel, buttons and controls in good working order. Door sides without damage, but with age wear.

Engine, drivetrain and gearbox are described as being in good condition. Brakes as well. Mechanically, everything works as intended.

Service history

The car has received new oil, otherwise no information about history. Last inspection took place in 2021.

Summary

Very unusual Japanese of which only a few were built. Rarely for sale and a chance to pick up a very interesting item that is perfect as a rolling project!
