Condition
The current owner describes the car as being in very good condition. The car was completely repainted in 2019 after the right front fender (clearcoat release) and the right front door were replaced. Repair on the right front door can be seen in the form of a bit of waviness if you look closely. It is also possible to see that it has been puttyed. There are no worse dents, scratches or other noticeable damage. The car has only driven a few hundred miles after restoration. The owner also informs that there are tendencies for rust to creep on the inside of the bottom of the front doors. This is very common on this model and it looks like it was previously fixed on the driver's door. However, this is the only rust on the car, which is a big plus. The front bumper has been changed to an updated bumper from model year 91. Glass windows are in very good condition. All badges are new from 2019. Chrome has been polished and in very good condition. The sliding strip is a little wavy, which can be seen in the picture on the right rear door. The chrome strip on the rear bumper has minor marks as shown. The rims are in good condition with no damage, but the tires have more years on the neck.
The interior is described as being in very good condition. The biggest thing to note is the damask for the handbrake which has cracked at the seam, which is obviously photographed. Two drill holes can be found in a smaller piece of space next to the stereo jack. The glasses that the car was delivered with have unfortunately been replaced with similar ones, but not in crystal. The glasses fit well in the holders. The sunshades in the rear doors do not work. The right side is there but is picked out and the left side the big one works on but the small one has "hid". So all the parts are there, but require a bit of pills and love to work again. There is normal age wear in the passenger compartment as well as on the seats and center console in the back seat. However, the overall impression is very good considering the age and mileage. The inner roof has been reclad in black fabric from the gray that was fitted originally and hangs a little by the handles in the roof. Steps have normal wear and the rubber at the ends has cracked. Wooden molding on the left rear door panel has a crack. Steering wheel, controls and buttons in good condition for its age. There is only one key to the car. A/C not working. That one, however, converted to R134 but has not been test printed after this work. Dryer filter has been replaced. The buttons for seat heating and adjustment for tail support are out of order on the driver's seat. The original flashlight that is in the glove compartment does not work. The extra generator belt is disconnected and the battery in the trunk is dismantled as it ran out. According to the owner, this does not affect the function of the car.
The condition of the engine is described as very good, but a little oily moisture, which is unfortunately common on BMWs. The gearbox and drive train are in good condition and shift smoothly and work as they should. There are vibrations in the front brakes. New brake fluid and new pads were fitted in 2024 but no other repairs have been made to the brake system by the current owner.
Service history
Service book is filled in until the car was imported to Sweden at 225,000km in 2004. During its time in Sweden, it has mostly been stored away. There is a binder with misc. information and service routines that come with the car. The current owner says the following about service in his possession: I have serviced and taken care of the car myself since I bought it in the fall of 2018. The last thing that was done was oil and filter in the engine as well as brake pads and brake fluid in 2024. During the time I have owned the car, I have:
- Changed valve cover gaskets and checked the oil pipes to the camshafts, common problem on these (2022)
- Replaced ignition cables, rotors and distributor caps and spark plugs (2023)
- Petrol pumps and petrol filters (2023)
- Renovated and synchronized damper housing (2022)
- The engine's data boxes have had all the electrolytic capacitors replaced as this is a big problem when things get older (2023)
- Other data boxes and known problem relays are checked and resoldered where necessary so that all electronics work as they should (2022)
- The chairs have had wires refurbished so all electrical settings etc. works as intended (2021)
- Rear electric sun blind upgraded with metal drive (instead of original plastic) (2020) has worked great since then until now when it can sometimes miss the lower position and "clicks" for a while when you fold it down, but only sometimes.
- Exhaust system has had a piece replaced due to rust, all silencers remain original and in good condition, only a piece of pipe that was damaged at the rear axle (2022)
- New battery (2024)
