Basic information and history

Here is a chance for those who wish to assemble something unusual during the dark days of winter! Domestically sold BMW E6 2000 Touring from 1972 with approx. 133293km on the odo. Over the years, the car has had 14 registered owners, however, it cannot be ascertained how many of these are actual owners versus users. The current owner bought the car in 2014 and renovations have been slowly carried out over the years where, among other things, the bodywork has been both rust-treated and painted in the company's original colour. Work that remains to get the car ready for inspection includes fitting the interior, moldings, adjustment and various small fixes that appear during a reassembly. The engine was running when the car was bought in 2014 but was never inspected as renovations began shortly after the purchase. Over the years, the car has traveled shorter distances to and from the paint shop, mechanic and garage. As of today, the car does not run as the mechanical fuel pump is probably dead and the battery is not recharging.

Condition

The body is freshly painted in the original color and in very good and stainless condition. The body is of course also free of scratches and dents. There are a couple of small dust grains that can be wet sanded and polished up if you want to be extra thorough. The rear axle beam has been replaced as the old one had rust. The front fenders and left door are new. The right door is better used. The exhaust system is new. The windshield has been replaced with a new one and only has a small scratch. Other windows are original and in good condition. Chrome strips for the front and rear window are missing, but can be purchased from e.g. Germany. Chrome moldings on the body are in OK condition. However, some are slightly damaged and some are missing. Bumpers are original with only minor wear. Used flawless light kits are purchased. The "2000 Touring" emblem is present as well as the BMW logo for the hood and tailgate. Typical cruiser rims from Mahle in size 13x6 in good condition with new tires. However, the tires were purchased in 2014 and have not rolled many meters. The car has always been at an even temperature and the tires are not dry-cracked.

The interior is in relatively good condition for its age. Half leather in good condition, headrest as well, however, seat surfaces are broken in all places. An 80s Recaro chair comes with the car along with an underseat from E21. New door sides in waterproof plyfa are available. The vinyl on the doors is OK but the chrome on the plastic trim is worn. Door speakers have been fitted and the vinyl therefore has holes for this. Rubber treads in good condition. The inner roof is in good condition and sits where it should. Steering wheel and buttons in good condition for its age but light switch lever is broken off.

The engine's condition should be assessed as unknown according to the current owner, as he has not opened the engine. Currently the engine does not start as the mechanical pump is probably broken. The battery is no longer charging. As previously described, however, the car has taken a few turns during the renovation. A Weber 36 is installed for some intake noise, and according to the previous owner, a worse camshaft is installed. However, this cannot be substantiated. The gearbox and driveline are described as being in OK condition. New brake bands have been installed at the rear in connection with the replacement of the rear axle. However, it is not aired.

Service history

No service has been carried out during the renovation other than the oil change which took place when the car was bought. Receipts are available for the parts purchased. Last inspection took place on 02/26/2009.

Summary

Unusual station wagon from the 70s that is ready to be reassembled and hit our Swedish roads again. The Touring body is relatively uncommon compared to the sedan model and a handy and screw-happy individual has a nice job ahead of him to complete this little gem. The current owner is unfortunately no longer able to continue the work and therefore hopes that someone else wishes to continue the work.
