1965 BMW 1600

Hugge
Vimmerby

Basic information and History

Domestically sold BMW 1600 from 1965 with approx. 16576km on the odometer. Meter setting can be guaranteed. The car has only had one user out of all the owners. The first owner had the car from 1964 until 1996. Since then the car has been garaged in the hope of getting out on the road again. The first owner's name is still on a tray in the glove compartment. The car was inspected in 2023 and can now be driven on our roads again.

  1. Unusual 60s BMW 1600 Neue Klasse
  2. One owner from 1964 to 1996
  3. 1 of 9 BMW 1600 registered in Sweden
  4. New tires

Equipped with a 1.6-liter four of approx. 82hp/125nm mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive.

Condition

The car comes in drivable used condition but could do well with a walk-through, alternative perfect as a rolling project. Renovations have not been carried out on the bodywork or paint and there are therefore wear and traces of the years that have passed, also dents and bumps. Chrome and moldings have marks and minor dents. Rust is present in places, such as around the wheel arches and wings. Underneath, the car looks good and seems to have coped well with rust in bad places such as beams etc.

The interior shows wear from the years that have passed. The seats are worn and so are the door panels. The wood inlay in the instrument panel has held up well. Typical dry cracks at the top against the window pane. Carpets in decent condition. Inner roof is worn in the fabric but sits where it should.

The engine and gearbox are described as being in good condition, but the gaskets should be checked. There is less oil leakage. Brakes have been checked by the current owner with, among other things, pads, hoses, cylinders, handbrake cable and brake fluid. Nice covers at the front. New water pump and gasket installed. Radiators have been refurbished by Kylarfabriken. Thermostat has been tested and it opens as it should. Engine oil looks fine according to owner but unclear when it was last changed.

The seller describes that the idle is uneven but runs fine at half and full throttle.

Please look through our photos to form an idea of the condition. If you are missing information or have questions, these can most easily be asked in the comment section!

Service history

Checked brakes according to the paragraph above. The latest inspection was carried out on 2023-10-05 and the vehicle can now be driven on Swedish roads. Extremely unusual as it is unclear how many of the 9 vehicles left in Sweden are still actually rolling. A 1600 Neue klasse is not something you see every day.

Summary

A unique chance to strike something unusual! The car is fully drivable and gets many nice comments on the few trips it has had since it was put back into use. The vehicle can be perfect as a rolling object for the BMW fan or someone who likes to roll around in something unusual!
