1988 Amc Eagle
Eagle
Hoting
Basic information and History
Indeed an odd-ball car and when new and exciting mix of a somewhat dated body and engine coupled to a brand new type of vacuum-controlled four-wheel drive system that aimed to combine the best of both worlds. Comfort from a passenger car and go-anywhere ability like an SUV.
When American Motor Company (AMC) began development of the AMC Eagle, it was done with a limited budget, to say the least, and primarily as a test project to launch its new vacuum-controlled four-wheel drive. They took body and power source from their already old AMC Concord, lifted the suspension, and installed four-wheel drive. The result was the AMC Eagle, a car that was only produced in one generation (1980-1988) and in a limited edition.
It was not a sales success then, but today it can be argued that AMC was way ahead of its time as a majority of the cars that are manufactured and sold today follow the same philosophy and concept. This makes the Eageln an exciting collector's item with firm cult status in many circles.
This example is a well-documented and recently inspected (April 2023) car and number 45 from the end of line in 1988. A total of 2306 examples were produced in 1988. It was sold new in Canada and has had 5 previous owners. This particular car has also been seen in everything from diaper commercials for Libero to articles in Tekninkens Värld.

Summary
A true cult classic that, in retrospect, was probably way ahead of its time. This newly inspected example is ready to be used as intended and a perfect enthusiast car to have at the cabin in the mountains, take down to the beach on Gotland or just cruise around the neighbourhood. No matter what, an AMC Eagle is guaranteed to attract attention.
