1992 Honda VFR400R NC30
Basic Information and History
This imported 1992 Honda VFR400R NC30 from Germany to Sweden in 2004 has had three owners in Sweden. This vehicle is the third version of the VFR400, a scaled-down variant of the iconic Honda VFR750R RC30 superbike. This model was the first to use a 360° crankshaft, which gives it the distinctive "Big Bang" engine character.
Condition
The motorcycle is generally in very good condition. The wheels have been repainted, but the paint is starting to flake in some places. There is a dent on the right side of the tank that the owner didn’t notice for the first three weeks. The dent is barely visible in photos. The right side panel has undergone a minor repair, which is included in the pictures. No rust has been reported by the seller. The condition of the tires is very good. The rear seat has a small hole, while the front seat is somewhat discolored. The handlebar grips are reasonably worn, indicating use. The engine is in good condition with no unusual noises, and the drivetrain and gearbox are also in good shape. The brakes work well, although a very slight pulsating feeling can be felt during very light braking.
Defects:
- Tank: Paint damage near the right emblem and at the vent cap, where a small chip has come off the paint. There are also small, thin scratches in the paint's surface; these are visible but not very intrusive.
- Ignition Lock: Slightly damaged at the opening but functions as it should. There is currently one key, but the owner plans to copy another one within the week. Different keys for all locks.
- Seat: The passenger seat has a small hole on the side towards the rear. The rider's seat is somewhat discolored.
- Panel: A minor repair on the right side has been done in a less professional manner.
- Left Mirror: Shows the correct angle backward only when angled down.
- Exhaust Pipe: Scrape marks on the heat shield.
- Frame: Small scratches on the surface on the left front.
- 95 Octane: The bike is designed for the fuel sold in 1992 and runs slightly weakly at 4,000–6,000 RPM. This is normal, but Honda mechanics at the brand workshop "Hela Hojen" recommend rejetting for better performance. At 98 octane, it runs significantly better.
Otherwise, the bike is in very good condition and presents a fair impression, with these minor flaws as exceptions. It starts easily, has a stable and smooth idle, and offers an exhilarating riding experience. The handling is excellent, and it loves curves. The engine is entertaining and fun. The tires, drivetrain, and brakes are in good condition.
Service History
No service history is available. The previous owner changed the oil and coolant, and the vehicle has then been stored for a few years with Aspen in the tank. Under the current ownership, the bike has covered less than 500 km. The vehicle has recently passed inspection, but a re-inspection is required for the rear light where a cable has slipped apart. Re-inspection will be done within a week.
Summary
The 1992 Honda VFR400R NC30 is a compact sportbike that offers a premium riding experience despite its relatively small engine size. With its sophisticated V4 engine, sporty design, and outstanding handling, it is a popular choice for motorcycle enthusiasts and collectors. Its classic design and high build quality have made it a cult favorite in the motorcycle world.
