1990 Mercedes-Benz 230 E

Tobbe49
Halmstad

Basic Information and History

Imported from Germany to Sweden in 1993, with 434,576 km on the odometer. The car had only one owner before the current owner. Originally sold to NEC in Munich as a company car, it was driven approximately 70,000 km before the current owner purchased it through Ingvar Bondesson in Varberg.

After the purchase, the car has been owned by a nephew and one of the current owner's sons during different periods, before being repurchased by the current owner. In total, it has had four owners.

Since the car was purchased for export, it received export license plates, which were later changed to UN plates (UNP518). The original vehicle registration document is still available, along with a certificate from the registration inspection.

Equipment and Options

Limited-slip differential, electric rear window shade, sunroof, towing hitch, air conditioning, and exterior temperature gauge.

Condition

The condition of the body is assessed as good considering the car's age. There is a small dent on the left front fender and on the left rear corner. The front bumper and hood were replaced after a minor collision in 1997. There was rust on the edge of the left front fender, which has been repaired. The hood has been repainted, and there is a minor clear coat peeling on the roof. The car has several small scratches here and there, as well as a minor damage on the left rear fender under the tail lights. The condition is what one might expect considering the car's age. The windows are in normal condition, with a small stone chip in the windshield but no significant scratches otherwise.

Chrome details, headlight glass, and moldings are in good condition, and there is no damage to the wheels. The tires are worn but were approved during the last inspection.

The interior is in very good condition. The driver's seat has been reupholstered, but the temperature display is partially unreadable. There are two holes from screws on the right side of the center console. The headliner is intact and in good condition, but the clip for the left sun visor is broken. The AC and trip meter do not work, and the thermometer display is partially damaged but still readable. The radio antenna is broken. There is a Biltema radio in the car, but a Becker radio, where the cassette player does not work, is included.

The engine is in good condition and runs very well, as does the transmission. The clutch has been recently replaced. The brakes are in good condition, with new calipers and pads all around, as well as new brake hoses in front.

Summary

The car was originally purchased in preparation for a move to the Middle East for a UN assignment. The current owner used the car frequently during the first six months in Israel, but during the later period, it was mostly left standing due to the lack of unleaded gasoline in Syria, where the owner was then living. The Mercedes quality from this era was top-notch, and it is this genuine quality that has allowed the car to be preserved over the years. It has always been meticulously maintained, which is reflected in its excellent condition. The car is now being sold due to lack of space, as the garage is becoming full.
