1975 NSU RO 80

Freddie
Stockholms kommun

Basic Information and History

A Swedish-sold NSU RO 80 with only 87,883 km on the odometer. The car has had five owners, including the current one. The car was brought in by the owner of Rydbergs Motor in Kalmar. Although the car is registered as a 1975 model, it is likely a 1976 model. It is said that it was registered in a way that "circumvented" new regulations that were introduced at that time.

At car meetings in Kalmar and on Öland, it is not uncommon for older individuals to recognize the car and share stories about its history. It has also been featured in several newspaper articles over the years, the most comprehensive and recent being in Klassiker magazine, issue 8, 2018.

Equipment and Options

The car features the facelift introduced in 1975, which includes discreet yet typical updates for the time. It is also equipped with headrests both front and back, something relatively unusual that adds to its exclusive impression. To further enhance its elegance, the car is fitted with stylish alloy wheels.

Condition

The condition of the body is described as very good. The car is essentially rust-free, with only superficial indications in a couple of vulnerable areas. According to the seller, there are no major dents or scratches on the body. The condition ranges from good to very good. However, someone has noted that the lower part in certain angles may appear "orange-peel." This does not necessarily mean the car has been repainted, especially considering that the mentioned indications are evenly distributed. In some areas, such as around the windscreen wiper mounts, the paint feels somewhat thin. Generally, the condition of the windows is good, except for a vertical crack in the passenger side windscreen, which has developed a certain "milky" appearance around the crack. The tires are in very good condition, almost like new, and are said to have been replaced in 2018, after which they have only rolled a few thousand km.

The interior is described as very well maintained, featuring elegant black velour upholstery. The headlining is in good condition, and the steering wheel and buttons are in very good condition with no visible wear. The car gives a modern impression. All electronic functions in the car work as they should, and the engine is in very good condition. This applies to the transmission and drivetrain as well. The brakes are in good condition.

Service History

During the current owner's just over five-year ownership, minor service tasks such as oil changes for the engine and transmission have been carried out. Some wear parts have also been replaced, including the brake servo. The car's last inspection was conducted in May 2024, and it passed the inspection with flying colors!

Summary

A very fine and unusual NSU RO 80. This car is a real 'head-turner' and award-winner, having secured an impressive second place in the Concours de Charme at Gärdesloppet/Prins Bertil Memorial in Stockholm in May 2024. A picture of the car has also been published in Nostalgia magazine, issue 7, 2024. The seller assesses that the car falls within "Note 2" on the critical German evaluation scale.
