Basic Information and History

This 1973 Maserati Indy is an elegant and powerful grand tourer, a model Maserati produced between 1969 and 1975. Named after Maserati's successes at the Indianapolis 500 in the 1930s, it combines racing heritage with luxury and comfort, making it ideal for long journeys. Designed by the Italian studio Carrozzeria Vignale, the car features a low, elongated profile with sweeping lines and a sleek dynamic that epitomizes Italian sports cars. The Indy’s four-seat coupe format was unusual for sports cars of this era, adding a unique dimension of elegance and functionality. Its wide grille and large headlights give the car a distinctive and classic Italian expression. With its powerful 4.9-liter V8 engine producing around 320 horsepower, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 6.5 seconds, an impressive performance for its time. Equipped with a five-speed manual ZF transmission, the Maserati Indy delivers a driving experience that is both powerful and smooth.

This car was delivered new to its first owner in Milan in 1973 and was imported to Sweden in 1981. The current odometer reading is 8507 km, but it is estimated that the car has traveled over 100,000 km. The car has had twelve owners and has been in the current owner’s family since 2002, owned by a company in the family until 2021. In the early 2000s, the car underwent an extensive full restoration, which included:

  1. Differential replacement
  2. Repair of the ventilation system
  3. Full body restoration (stripped to bare metal, rust repair, realigned, professionally painted, and rust-protected)
  4. New inner fenders
  5. Repainted wheels
  6. Rechromed bumper
  7. New original emblems purchased from Campana in Modena, along with other original parts
  8. New taillights and new H4 headlights
  9. Renovated fuel tanks
  10. Replacement of all hoses and several trims
  11. Replacement of the master brake cylinder and inspection of the brake system
  12. Stainless steel bolts throughout
  13. Replacement of the windshield
  14. New floor and new carpets
  15. A total of 450 hours were spent on sheet metal and paintwork.

Condition

The body is described as being in very good condition according to the seller, without significant scratches or dents. There is no rust on the body, but repairs have been made to the floor pan under both the driver and passenger seats. A small rust hole at the bottom of the battery compartment has been provisionally repaired with a metal plate. The paint is in good condition, though there are a few minor scratches and a small paint defect near the hood. The windows are in good shape, and chrome, trim, and light covers are overall well-preserved, though there is some wear on the rim edges. The tires are older and have some minor dry cracks.

The leather upholstery is intact but would benefit from a detailing. There are no damages to the seats, but the dashboard is slightly worn in front of the steering wheel. Some screws are missing, and others are not original. The headliner is in good condition. The lighting button is not original, but a suitable one can be sourced. Some buttons need inspection. The AC is present but not functional, and the power windows are non-operational; these have not been investigated. Electrical safety should be inspected as the car has been unused for an extended period. The tachometer is not working.

A newer model stereo is installed, but its function is unknown. The engine is in good condition, and both the transmission and drivetrain operate without issues. The brakes are in good condition and work well.

Service History

The latest service was performed this past summer, during which oil, filters, spark plugs, and some fuel hoses were replaced. A general inspection was also done at the same time. The instruction manual is available, along with a folder containing various details about the vehicle, including service history and specifications. Last inspected on 2024-10-01.
