1962 Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1300 SS
Basic information and history
Fantastically beautiful Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1300 Sprint Speciale from 1962. This example was imported in 1968 by an Italian man who worked at Alfa Romeo Stockholm during the 70s. In the early 80s, the car was rebuilt for historic racing and was used for this purpose until 2002. Since the import from Italy, the car has had five users in Sweden. During the years 2021-2023, the car has been partially restored to street performance. The car comes with FIA HTP papers valid until 2027.

- Built for historic racing with FIA HTP papers valid until 2027
- 1 of 1366 examples built
This beautiful creation from the design house Bertone, although partially restored, still has a lot of race in it. The inside has been emptied but partially restored with nice materials on the door sides, for example, but no inner ceiling. An FIA-approved half-cage comes with the side of the car. The interior is adorned with period-correct race seats and race belt mounts are still fitted. Side windows are plastic and fixed. Race tank is mounted. The fantastically good-sounding 1.3-liter racing machine comes with, among other things, double Weber carburettors and is connected to a 5-speed manual box with sintered clutch.
Condition
The condition of the body is described by the owner as being in good working order. The car is of course free of rust and damage, dents or other conspicuous eye-sores. The paintwork is in good condition considering its area of use. Windshield and rear window are in original design and there is a scratch on the windshield. As previously mentioned, the side windows are made of plastic and are fixed. Chrome, lens and emblem are in usable condition. The rims are free of damage and wrapped in old Dunlop Racing tires.
The interior is spartan and in a good condition considering the area of use. The carpets are new, original type. The sports seats are also new. Cut off switch is installed as well as other equipment that is a requirement for FIA HTP. Heating package is missing. Motors for windscreen wipers are somewhat weak in their performance. Instrument panel and all instruments are in good condition. Inner ceiling is missing. Original Alfa steering wheel in good condition.
Engine is described as working and is tuned for racing. As previously mentioned, the 5-speed gearbox is equipped with a sintered clutch. Clutch is very noisy if you slip too much on it. Brakes have been refurbished with new pads and cylinders. Mechanically, of course, everything works as intended.
Summary
A timelessly beautiful car from the design house Bertone that looks as good today as when the prototype was first shown at the Turin Auto Salon in 1957. Only 1366 examples were built until 1962, and with its aerodynamic design the SS managed to reach a top speed of an impressive 200km/h. This example is perfect for those looking for an unusual Alfa to add to their racing car collection, or just looking for something exciting to use in historic racing!
