1998 Mini Cooper

LisaQ
Stockholm
An almost modern classic? The car that defined what we today call small cars, challenged old-fashioned technical solutions, achieved great success in racing with wins in the Monte Carlo rally whilst at the same time becoming a fashion icon among celebrities in London. All this from the get-go, in the 60s. Production lasted until the end of the 1990s and then we are "almost" up in modern times. Not a bad resumé.

Although some changes have taken place during 41 years of production, the characteristic similarities remain where the 90s Mini has had some basic conveniences added and the four-cylinder A-engine now has injection, there is still a wheel in every corner, the weight is below 800 kg and the steering wheel with bus slope is among the most directly controlled available. The slightly higher gear ratio in these modern Minis means that it is also possible to drive at motorway speeds in reasonable comfort.

This particular car is one of about 300 Swedish-sold copies between 1997-2000. It has been well cared for by all of its three users, which can be proven by both very good condition and good service history. It is 99% rust-free, which is very unusual on these cars, and has apparently always been stored dry indoors without any indication that it was driven in winter road conditions.

The latest owner has used the car for shorter commutes to work during the summer months, but above all as an enthusiast car. Much of the maintenance has been performed by a recognized Mini-specialist, Klark Classic Cars. Service and inspection have taken place every year the car has been in traffic, but now it has been parked since 2018.

Exterior
  • 99% rust-free, no rust in the usual places, windscreen, headlights, hood, or underneath
  • The paint is in good condition, but there are some stone chips and minor clear coat deflection at the top of the windscreen and a slightly matt part on the tailgate that can be polished off.
  • Small rust dot on lower the passenger door corner
  • The bumper has smaller dents
  • The decals on the side can be removed but have been on the car since the purchase by the previous owner (2012)
Interior
  • Good condition, minimal wear on seats and carpets
  • Varnish has been released on the dashboard, steering wheel, and gear lever knob. This is easy to replace.
  • Retrofitted stereo with sub-woofer that should be re-inspected
Mechanical
  • The car runs very well in engine, transmission and chassis
  • Always starts, smooth engine running with full power on all revs
  • No vibrations or imbalances
  • The tires are OK but may need to be replaced due to age
  • No leakage or oil spills since storage in 2018
  • Brakes OK
Nice, low-mileage, next to rust-free Mini with a lot of service history and few owners. Now ready to put smiles on people's faces this summer.
