Many fine auctions ended up under the hammer and January 2025 was a doubling of January 2024, above all the intake for the coming season looks very bright. It is quite clear that the Swedish market has increasingly begun to accept the auction as a full-fledged alternative to the classic classified ad. I don't think one will ever completely replace the other. Both are needed and it's quite clear that they fill different needs of different types of sellers but in a niche like ours where no item is the same there is an honesty and allure in bidding's ability to pinpoint the exact market value. Sometimes it is more than you might think and sometimes a little less, but in any case it cannot be argued that it is not an honest and transparent way of doing business.

From this month's auctions, I take with me that it is a bit unbelievable that some lucky bidder will drive around in a Rolls Royce this summer for under SEK 100,000 and that more than 10 different enthusiasts want to bid on an unusual but also quite everyday Dacia 1300 from 1978. Hard for me as an 80s person to grasp, but it's certainly fantastic, that there is something for everyone. It doesn't have to break the bank to have some fun in the garage and if you happen to have some powder in your wallet, you can always try to call home a red little Italian, or a long-nosed British beauty, but more on those next month.

Now, in any case, we at Bidders Highway want to declare the auction year 2025 officially open. It will be more, bigger and more eclectic than the last so come along, buckle up and let the bidding begin!
