1969 Saab Sonett II

Thoeks
Stockholm

Basic information and History

Sporty SAAB Sonett II from 1969 which was imported to Sweden in 1993. The car received a complete renovation in the States before being importet. A Group 2 rally engine was installed during the time. According to information, the engine has run approx. 30.000 km.

  • SAAB Sonett II with group 2 engine
  • Previously completely renovated in the USA
  • Fantastic driving experience

The car has received a proper engine upgrade according to group 2 regulations and today there is a V4 of approx. 105hp installed. The 1723cc engine has forged Mahle pistons, 292-degree cam from R2, WEBER 48-carburetor model DGA57A, unleaded valve sets and 5cc porting. A new 2-inch exhaust system has also been installed and the brakes were renovated in 2020.

Equipment and Options

Spartan like a real sports car, i.e. heat pack and fan! More comfortable seats with headrests and removable extra support for the back/hip are also installed.

Condition

Overall good condition from previous renovation. The vehicle is free from rust. Bright yellow paint in good condition with red stripes. Glass parts, lamps and chrome look nice. Smaller amounts of stone chips are of course present, but nothing conspicuously bad. The Ronal rims are in good condition and come with approx. 6mm pattern depth.

The interior is also in good condition. Instrument panel, controls and buttons look good and all electronics work as intended.

Mechanically, the car is in as good condition as otherwise. No leaks have been found. Neat and clean under the hood and with a really nice intake sound from the well-sized Weber carburettor. Brakes are described as being unremarkable.

Service history

The last service was carried out in August 2023. There are no previous service records, but the renovation and the current condition speak for a well-cared-for car.

Summary

A rarely seen chance as SAAB Sonett IIs are few in Sweden, especially in such good condition and with a really fun-to-drive engine!
