1954 MATCHLESS 500CC G80S

Christensen
Lidköping

Basic information and history

Domestically sold Matchless G80S 500cc from 1954 in fantastic condition, with matching numbers and sold new in Gothenburg by Åke Ahlqvist. Current owner has only driven approx. 100km since acquisition in 2017 and the motorcycle is currently looking for a new enthusiastic owner. The G80S model was produced from 1951 to 1955 and could be recognized by its "long stroke" engine. The "S" in the model name indicates that the bike has "Teledraulic" dampers all around. In 1956, the model was replaced by one with a shorter stroke.

  1. Domestically sold 1954 Matchless G80S in great condition
  2. Huge amount of documentation and history

This 50's British Big Bore era specimen is very well documented. Current owners have interviewed as many of the 14 previous owners as are alive today and all previous owners are named. The first owner, a gentleman who is now 90 years old, is one of the interviewees. There is a lot of correspondence between the current and previous owners that is included. Original instruction brochure is still available.

Unfortunately, the current owner is not able to answer questions that appear in the question field. If you have any questions, please email support@biddershighway.com and we will respond via the owner.

Condition

This Matchless comes in very nice condition for its age and has been restored by the previous owner. It comes with a thick binder with what was done during the renovation. In addition, a luggage holder is also included, for those who want luggage for longer trips. The chrome tank with red emblems shines nicely and is free of any dents or dings. The rims are new and in very good condition. The saddle is also new. Lantern glass is in good condition. Handlebar and instruments in good condition for its age. Fenders have a light patina on them but the overall impression of the motorcycle is very good!

Engine has been renovated by previous owner with, among other things, new piston, new bore and new valves. The motorcycle is in need of a new battery as it has been parked away for a while. It is also good to change the petrol and oil before starting it up. A can of Castrol oil is included.

Summary

Fantastically nice bike from the so-called British Big Bore era! This copy is extremely well documented with full ownership history and various other interesting reading. A magnificent specimen for e.g. museum or private person with a great interest in the object's history.
