Basic Information and History

Swedish-sold Austin A50 Cambridge with only four documented previous owners. The purchase contract from the first owner is still available, as well as the service manual from the renowned Östermans. All service notes have been carefully preserved by the current owner. The car was featured in a report in Classic Motor (issue 1, 1999). At that time, it was serviced by Åke Carlsson in Sparreholm, a well-known car restorer who contributed to many of the classic vehicles displayed at the Sparreholm Car Museum (now closed). The car has never been driven in winter.

It is worth noting that the car is right-hand drive and equipped with turn signals.

Condition

The body is assessed to be in good condition, with two minor rust spots on the left side: one near the left wheel arch, approximately 5 cm in size, and one at the bottom of the left front door, about 7x8 cm (see picture). There are no major dents or scratches on the body, and the paint is described as being in good condition. The entire car was repainted in its original color during the winter of 1992-93, a job done by Åke Carlsson. The glass all around the car is in good condition, and the chrome, trim, and headlight glass are described as being in good shape.

Regarding the headlights, it should be noted that they are not original. Following Åke Carlsson's recommendation, an older type was installed. The wheels are undamaged, and the car is equipped with modern tires that are in good condition according to the seller.

The interior is the weakest part of the car. The leather back seat is intact, while the front seat has cracks. To protect the front seat, it has been covered with a plastic protector, and on top of that, a beautiful blanket. The headlining has cracked during the past winter’s storage for unknown reasons. The steering wheel, controls, and buttons are in good condition, even though the car does not have many controls. Unfortunately, the odometer stopped working three years ago, but the current owner has driven less than 500 km per year during that time.

The engine is described as being in good condition. It runs well, and maintenance has been performed regularly, at least every two years. About twelve years ago, a “new” engine of the same type as the original was installed by Åke Carlsson in Sparreholm.

Service History

During the spring and early summer of this year, the car underwent extensive servicing. A mechanic has thoroughly gone through the vehicle and addressed various parts, including a thorough cleaning of the radiator. The last approved inspection took place on June 8, 2016.

Summary

Here we have a well-preserved Austin A50, in drivable condition and with extensive documentation that accompanies the car. This classic from the mid-50s is ready for the next owner who appreciates a period vehicle with charm and character. The car is in fully functioning condition and offers a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to continue preserving its history or turn it into an even more impressive example of British engineering.
