1983 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC
Basic Information and History
A meticulously maintained Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC, imported from Germany to Sweden in 2003. In 2007, the car was exported to Estonia but returned to Sweden in 2020 with a clean Carfax report and no issues in its history. Since importation, the car has had only one owner and has been driven sparingly, contributing to its excellent condition. It has been parked and carefully maintained ever since.
This classic is a fantastic example of Mercedes-Benz engineering, with an elegant design and a powerful engine—perfect for the collector looking for a combination of luxury and performance.
Condition
The body of the car is in great condition, with rust repair done under the moldings. The headlights and bumpers were repainted in 2020. According to the seller, there are no dents or serious scratches. Photos are available from when the side moldings were removed and rust was addressed underneath. The body is now reportedly rust-free, and the paint is in great condition for its age. As with many SEC models, the rear windows tend to appear slightly cloudy at the bottom edge due to moisture in the laminate, but it’s not noticeable.
The chrome, headlights, and emblems (500 SEC) are in good condition, and the rims are undamaged. The car also has new tires with a 9 mm tread depth. The interior is in decent shape with visible signs of use. In 2020, the leather was treated by Color Glo to soften and clean it, and the seats are free from damage. Some wooden trim on the dashboard shows minor signs of aging, but a brand-new wood insert has been installed under the steering wheel, as the previous one was cracked, giving a clean and fresh overall impression. The headliner is also in fair condition.
The engine runs smoothly, and the transmission is in good condition with no unusual noises. The car has been parked since 2020, so it would benefit from some time back on the road. In 2021, the longitudinal brake lines were replaced following an inspection note.
Service History
In addition to regular service and inspection, the following work has been done:
- Replaced longitudinal brake lines
- Rustproofed under the moldings (see photos)
- New tires installed
The last approved inspection was on 2024-11-04. Oil and filter changes have been done by the owner, but otherwise, the car has been kept in a private collection. Some older receipts are available, but most of the work done since 2020, when the current owner bought the car, was carried out without receipts.
