1966 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL
Basic Information and History
Domestically-sold Mercedes-Benz 230 SL from 1966 with 26,634 km on the odometer (mileage cannot be guaranteed). The car has had 11 owners, with the current owner having it since the mid-1970s. A halted engine bay restoration remains unfinished, but otherwise, the car is in very good condition considering its age. Note that the car does not have the original wheels. See photos for an assessment of the condition.
Condition
Bodywork: Generally in good condition. The body has no major dents or serious scratches. The front fenders have been replaced, the side moldings are not original, but the originals are included. All rubber seals have been replaced. Note that the outer trims at the door sills, where the rubber mat sits, are missing. There is a small rust spot (approximately 1 square centimeter) under the left headlight. The paint is in good condition with a few minor spots, as visible in the photos. The car was repainted when purchased, and the paint has not been sealed or treated since.
Glass: Generally in good condition. However, there is a slight wrinkling effect in the lower corner angles.
Chrome: The chrome is in good condition, except for the trim connecting the taillights, where there is some chrome peeling. This can be seen in the photos.
Wheels: The original wheels have never been mounted on the car. Currently, the car has old winter tires on the wheels, which need sandblasting and painting. The wheels are compatible with both "dog dishes" and full wheel covers. The car is currently fitted with temporary wheels that are not original.
Interior: Generally in good condition. The carpets are not original and should be replaced. The door panels are not original, and there is a small damage to the left door handle. The driver's seat has a small tear in the leather (8-10 mm) at the angle between the seat and backrest. There is also minor damage to the upholstery on the driver's side door handle. The outer trim covering the rubber mat at the door sill is missing on both sides.
The hardtop has a small tear (about 10 mm) and has yellowed at the bottom near the rear window. The reflectors for the front fog lights are missing.
Engine and Drivetrain: The condition of the engine, gearbox, and drivetrain is good. The car has been sitting for a while, but the owner recalls that an oil and filter change, as well as general lubrication, were done recently.
Service History
Unfortunately, an extensive binder of documentation was lost during a move. The most recent approved inspection was dated May 9, 1983.
