1965 Porsche 912 V8
Basic information and history
"Dont judge a book by its cover" is an expression that has long been used and in this particular case it is more than appropriate! This Porsche began life in 1965 as a four-cylinder Porsche 912, well-regarded for its nice balance and was welcoming being driven in an inspiring manner. In 1986, someone very gas-happy decided to pull out the four-cylinder boxer four and shoehorn down a period-correct 1969 Cheva 327cui with approx. 400hp at the same time as the majority of modifications to both the chassis and body were carried out. The car is still unique, potent and very inviting with its race look! For those who want to read more in depth, well-known Speedhunters have written an article about the car. It can be read here. In 1986, when the car was completed, a article was also written by swedish magazine Bilsport.
- Unique 1965 Porsche 912 with 5.3-liter V8
- Inspected and approved in current version!
- Street legal, potent and more than ready!
Equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 that received, among other things, worse cams, ported tops, Holley carburettor, electric water pump and more and the power is stated to be approx. 400hp and plenty of torque. This machine is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox from the Porsche 930 Turbo.
Condition
The bodywork is in good condition and without any major remarks or need for action. However, there is wear and tear from past years. The front comes from a 1974 911 Turbo and a large splitter has been fitted. The rear end is inspired by the legendary 935 RS and fits the rest of the design very well. The paintwork is in good condition with a good shine. The right rear fender has marks in the paint and a repair is visible in front of the right rear light. There is also a small repaired crack at the air intake on the right rear fender. At the front edge of the side skirt, towards the right front wheel, there is also a small crack. On the front hood there are small bubbles in the paint. The splitter has been taped. Despite the minor remarks mentioned, the bodywork and paint give a very good overall impression!
The interior has been kept as original as possible, despite the car's newfound power. The condition is good for its age. The seats come from a 996 GT3 with four-point belts from Sabelt. VDO instrumentation adorns the panel. Steering wheel, buttons and controls in good condition. Door sides as well. Interior roof in good condition only with a mark against the rear window. All functions in the passenger compartment work as they should.
Everything mechanically works as it should. The front brakes are with ventilated 911 discs. New clutch from Sachs installed in 2021.
Service history
The car has had new oil, filters and spark plugs this year. The last, and final, inspection took place on 15/05/2017. The car is approved in its current version!
Summary
Unique in the Porsche world. Potent, street legal and ready to be enjoyed!
