1969 Pontiac Firebird convertible
In 1969, the Pontiac Firebird and its sibling the Camaro received an extensive facelift with many new updates, despite that, the least number of convertibles of this generation were built during the year (11,649) and is now one of the most attractive model years. This example started life with a standard 350 (5.7L) V8 and after an extensive renovation, there is a 400 engine in the car today. The car was registered in Sweden back in 1976 and has undergone a major renovation in the last 7 years where hardly a screw has been left untouched with, among other things, new paint, new interior, overhauled engine, chassis, new cab roof, etc. There are a few small points left before the project can be considered to be completely finished as i.a. mount lamp housings, mount clutch cable, mount pulley/drive belt, mount center console, adjust hood and door locks and connect some wiring, but all of the above is of course included and can easily be arranged in a weekend for an experienced mechanic!
Equipment
- Pontiac 400 engine (6.6L)
- Tremec 5-speed manual transmission
- Blue leather interior
- Blue cab roof
- Power steering / power brakes
Condition
Exterior: Newly painted in white with painted blue stripes under the clearcoat (as well as on the dashboard). The entire car has been gone through with new body parts, underside blasted/painted, new cab roof and is in top condition. Some adjustment is required for the hood and doors to fit perfectly, as well as mounting the lamp housings to be 100% exterior.
Interior. The car still has the original seats and dashboard, but completely renovated with new stylish blue upholstery all around, new carpet, new door sides, emblems, etc. The wiring under the dashboard needs to be attached/dressed up.
Mechanical: Engine and gearbox are completely gone through and in absolute top condition. The upgraded 5-speed Tremec transmission together with the 400 engine is a really nice combination that provides both performance and comfort when driving on the road. As mentioned, there are a few small details left to assemble with the parts included with the purchase.
Service history
There is no service book for the car, it has not been driven after the extensive renovation and needs a final inspection to be exempt from inspection here in Sweden.
Summary
A really nice and well-renovated icon with a couple of minor points that the handy person can fix in a weekend. An opportunity to buy an almost complete project where previous owners invested an incredible amount of money and time! The model has had a very positive development upwards and these fine refurbished models will only increase so take the chance to acquire a future collector car and brutal driving machine!
