Basic information and history

Ford Galaxie 500/XL, year model 1963½ imported from the USA in 2015. The car has had 3 users in Sweden over the years. The car comes in a used condition with a lot of patina on the body which is untouched. The model has had great success in racing and is still often seen today at the front of various classic gatherings out on the tracks in Europe.

Equipped with 6.4-liter V8 of approx. 300hp connected to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Galaxy has had a more modern automatic gearbox of type 4R70W installed and refurbished by Per Milles. Gearing in the rear axle has been changed to one with 3.50 to match the gearbox.

Condition

Current owner says that the body is patinated so scratches, dents, surface rust etc. occurs. However, the bodywork has not been rust-treated any time before and the rust that is present is i.a. at the bottom of the right rear screen. It is the original color of the body. The left front fender may have been replaced earlier as it lacks an emblem. The car probably still has the original windows and the front window has stone chips high up on the left side and there are various scratches from the wiper blades. Moldings are in good used condition. The rims from American Racing are in usable condition and would benefit from a thorough polish. Pattern depth measures approx. 6mm all around and the size at the front is 235s and 255s at the back.

The owner says that the original interior has been replaced or renovated over the years. Front seats and back seat are reupholstered for approx. 4 years ago. Door sides and side pieces at the back seat are now painted in black. The instrument panel is originally equipped with a Dashpad and this has been gone for many years and the instrument panel is today lacquered instead. Buttons etc. is in place and gives a completely okay impression despite some wear. The inner roof has been replaced and is in good condition. The floor mat is black and is in decent condition. The steering wheel has been replaced with an aftermarket steering wheel, albeit in the correct style. An Air/Fuel ratio meter is installed and picks up the signal from the lambda probe mounted on the exhaust system. The original radio is supplemented with a device that makes it possible to connect the mobile phone to it and play music from e.g. Spotify. A towbar is also available on the car.

Engine is described by the current owner as unopened for many years but that it does not drink any oil and has a strong register. There is a weld on the block that has hung around for many years without changing. In 2023, front brake discs were fitted for better braking ability compared to original drum brakes. It comes with a new master brake cylinder that allows for a 2-circuit system. Anti-roll bars are installed on the rear trailer. Mechanically, everything works as it should.

Service history

In 2024, the car received new hubs and new oil and filters in the engine. The car is exempt from inspection.

A Ford Galaxie 500/XL with untouched bodywork and plenty of patina. Absolutely rideable in its current condition or as a very good rolling project!
