AlfAE
Västerås

Basic information and History

The Italian Carabinieri's favorite car, the powerful and agile Alfa Romeo Berlina 2000. Equipped with a 2-liter twincam engine and double carburettors, they extracted a whopping 130hp! Top speed with the roaring twincam and a 5-speed gearbox was a whopping 190km/h.

  • La bella Madonna, Alfa Romeo Berlina 2000 from 1973
  • Sold in Sweden and with the same owner between '83 till 06
  • One of approx. 25 remaining Berlinas in the country

This domestically sold 1973 Alfa Romeo Berlina 2000 comes in an unrestored but drivable used condition. Only 8 owners over the years. Same owner between 1983 and 2006. In 2006, the car was inherited by the son. The car's odometer has turned and should therefore read approx. 129749km. Meter reading cannot be guaranteed.

Equipment and Options

Equipment typical of the 70s, i.e. spartan. However, there is a bit of goodies, such as a tachometer with oil pressure, analog clock and water temperature gauge from Jaeger. Last but not least, a conveniently placed ashtray!

Condition

The car comes in a drivable, used condition and can be perfect as a rolling project. There is some damage to the bodywork, including a poorly filled and painted dent on the left front fender, door flaps, various paint chips and shade differences. According to the current owner, there is rust damage, including on the front and rear fenders, thresholds and doors.

In 2019, the car was hit from behind in a queue. The insurance company approved the repair and painting behind the rear doors at a cost of SEK 40,000. Also new rear plate and better used bumpers in the same crank. The tank was replaced with a new one in 2014. The rear damper was replaced in 2018.

The floor on the passenger seat and above the right-hand support arm bracket has been sweated up. Previous welding has been done on floors, jack mounts and more. Windshield and driver's window are worn and scratched. Chrome comes in OK condition with patina. The condition is not particularly bad for an Italian unrestored car from 1973.

The interior also has the patina from the years, including worn material on the driver's seat and some hanging and dirty fabrics in the door sides. The roof has dirt but sits where it should. The wooden details and steering wheel have done well over the years, but the instrument panel has a typical dry crack. The clock is out of order and the blinker indication has, due to a broken lamp, found a creative solution for indication.

Engine and gearbox are described by the current owner as being unrestored. There is minor leakage from the engine and some drop from the rear axle. The gearbox is untouched and has poor alignment in second gear.
The Solex carburetors were refurbished and synced by Autokinito in Uppsala in 2020. In the same year, Autokinito Ignitors were also mounted in the distributor instead of original switch tips. New distributor box, spark plugs and cables were fitted at the same time. Fuel pump fitted by CC engine 2023. Fuel pressure is a bit low though. Front brakes were renovated in 2011 and the car has since run approx. 1000 miles. Rear brakes are untouched.

Feel free to look through the photos to form an idea of the condition of the car. Questions can most easily be asked in the comment section!

Service history

The car has no previous service records but has had regular oil changes by the current owner. The last inspection/MOT took place on 22/04/2022 and was the last inspection needed.

Summary

A fun-to-drive and sporty Italian with four doors and room for the whole family. Perfect Alfa as a rolling project that could become something really unusual on the roads!
