1980 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider
It is said that every car enthusiast should have owned an Alfa Romeo at some point in their life, and this is without a doubt a great example for first-time buyers and true Alfists alike. The Spider model was originally designed by the recognized design house Pininfarini and has all the ingredients for a classic Italian sports car. This is a second generation Spider and one of the most popular due to its very clean and timeless design compared to later models.
The car was sold new in Germany with a first registration on 1980 08 24. It remained in German hands until the seller bought the car in Cologne in 2015 and imported it to Sweden. The German seller had then owned it for several years and carried out a major renovation at a workshop in Germany in 2010 (among other things inspection of engine, gearbox, bushings, wheel suspensions etc.) and also sealing of all cavities with wax. The car was also repainted, a new hood was fitted and finally the interior was updated with new carpets and new leather upholstery on the seats.
Condition
Exterior: The car has been driven approx. 2,000 miles after the renovation and apart from a couple of very small stone chips, it is in pretty much the same amazingly fine condition as it was then. The car underwent a major renovation in 2010 with brand new paint, new hood and sealing of all cavities with wax. The seller notes that a small rubber strip has come off on the rear bumper but otherwise it is completely intact, with no blemishes and in very good condition. Also note that the car is delivered solely with the correct Cromodora rims (picture in album) and not the ones on the car at the time of the photography for an absolutely contemporary impression. For more info on exact condition see our detailed photos in the album and feel free to ask questions in the comment field!
Interior: As mentioned, the interior also received a review and update in 2010 with new front floor mats, reupholstered leather seats and a general review. There is some patina/minor wear after the 2000 miles driven but despite that is still in a very nice condition. For more info on exact condition see our detailed photos in the album and feel free to ask questions in the comment field!
Mechanics: The car is well looked after and well maintained and there is some documentation, service book is missing and was last serviced last summer at a specialist workshop. In 2010, the engine, gearbox, bushings and wheel suspensions received a complete review and the engine still pulls incredibly well and the second gear alignment works perfectly. A characteristic of an Alfa Spider is, however, a little squeaking in the body, such as e.g. when a railway crossing is passed or the road surface is extra rough and it's obviously in this one now, just like the day the car was new. In 2013, new shock absorbers from recognized Koni were installed. The odometer states approx 96000km but cannot be guaranteed and is sold as "TMU" (True mileage unknown). Please see all the photos in the album for more info!
Summary
Whether you are a first-time Alfa buyer or a collector looking for the absolute best example, this is just the right item for you. Well cared for, a fantastic renovation that still feels like it was done yesterday and a true Italian classic that just longs for warm summer nights with the roof down. It is the last vintage of the Alfa Spider before it was "modernized" with div. plastic details, rubber spoilers etc and in our opinion the absolute most beautiful!
